I've always thought that Sherlock Holmes had one favorite robe that faded from blue to purplish to a sort of off-grey over time. What's your theory?

Dear Christopher Morley, I’ve always found your theory on Holmes’ dressing gown to be very nicely thought and a quite charming one. But my own little theory is that Holmes had (at least) three different dressing gowns. I think it very unlikely that the same one would have survived two decades of armchair reasoning.
